After all, a good show needs a good villain. Her sarees were to die for, her hair always in place and her constant hitting on R.K was supremely fun to watch. Her actions were deeply evil, but that’s what villains are for, right? As a viewer, I loved watching her devious schemes, and loved more to see her getting caught! R.K and Madhu managed to thwart all her epic attempts and her actions only brought them closer! Reconsidering her epic mistake, she plotted ways to separate R.K and Madhubala and sprawl herself in R.K’s bed. She did get rich and comfortable, but not the guy. For this, she ditched R.K, our hero, and married the wrong brother, a one-film wonder.

She was the starlet who wanted the riches and comforts of life by marrying the next star-in-the-making. How can I not mention the charming and always stylish Deepali? They used film muhurats, shooting of romantic songs, the vanity vans of actors, the script reading session, the producer’s guild, the re-emergence of a retired director, the ambition of a B grade producer, the stuntman’s life- all were woven very well in the story. The story also had plenty of Bollywood moments. R.K’s penthouse on the top floor of a city skyscraper, with the lift bearing his initials was designed soberly.

From the protagonist ‘Madhubala’ gaining her famous name, to her chance encounter with R.K, the entire family working in films- from R.K’s failed step brother of an actor, his step father producer or his real father, the director/producer even Madhu’s sister trying her luck in films to her step father being a stunt man. The glitzy and glamourous world of films worked as the perfect backdrop for this show. There were all kinds of moments- sweet, hot, rough and funny! Even when the love turned out to be a big hoax on R.K’s part- the romance was there. The yummiest were also the simplest- when Madhu convinces him for a hair massage and he confesses his love after relaxing. Like when, Madhu is packing his suitcase for an outdoor shoot and R.K scoops her off feet and puts her in the suitcase, declaring, “That’s all I need!”, or when he interrupts in the kitchen politics and shows Deepali (the villainous sister-in-law and R.K’s ex who hits on him every chance that she gets) her place. Some moments almost made me say ‘AWW’ out loud as it unexpectedly sweet. The fights were real how a superstar’s wife will snap at him and give him back tooth and nail, keep him grounded- especially when the husband in question is R.K, who doesn’t think about anything but himself and the marriage is, but a deal, which later blossoms into true love. There were fully fledged jump your bones and crush them hugs. There were no side hugs, which makes the husband-wife relationship almost platonic. It may seem stupid in writing, but coming from him, it was…ah…I am melting. He called his wife not by her name or an endearment but ‘Biwi’- the Hindi speech for ‘wife’. Whatever he did, from throwing hissy tantrums, arrogantly ordering his manager ‘Bittu ji’ (another lovable character), ignoring his mother and brushing off Deepali’s advances had us in a spin! His dialogues! He had razor-sharp lines which either made us feel bad for the character he was insulting or laughing along with him sharing his wicked sense of humour.Īnd last but definitely not the least was his oh-so-different romantic side. (so much so that, I half expected an article about him in the local entertainment bulletin) He had me (and most of the viewers) believe that he was indeed a famous actor, in the top league of the film industry. ‘Aha’! The one expression which killed it all! The way he said it, when he was annoyed, upset or even impressed was a simple trademark. Sure, it lost its plot a couple of times, but it never lost its viewers, including me.Ī.K.A.

It was one of the coolest and most addictive shows on T.V during the time it was aired (28 th May 2012- 9 th August 2014). How they fall in love and make their marriage work formed the crux of the story. Produced to celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema, the show followed the journey of Rishab Kundra, more famously known as R.K who marries Madhubala, a girl bearing the name of the most beautiful Indian actress against her wish.
